hi ....... been lurking around here for a while since i had my 2005 fx4 . i just sold my chrysler 300c , and am really on the fence between a 2007 f350 harley or a jeep srt8
the thing that scares the crap out of me is this .............
the last forced induction car i had was a 2003 audi a4 , i flashed it with the proper programing and it all went to the s!@ts from there . blown sensors due to to much boost and always falling into safe mode , it was just a huge headache , id fix one thing anither thing went on it . i really dont wanna re-live that rottin experience with a car again.
also , my friend has a ram3500 dually witht the cummins , he diablod it , and hes in the same boat as i was in ...change this sensor , safe mode ect ect
Id like to know is there a common problem like this with the powerstroke , be it 250 or 350
If you're afraid of the truck, don't buy it. You'll just be paranoid as long as you own it. If you're going to drop some coin on a vehicle, purchase one you trust. IMO, over 90% of the vehicle owning experience being a positive one comes from having faith that your vehicle will do what you ask of it. If you don't trust the vehicle from the start, you never really will.
in my own appenion, you dont need to make mods to the psd. pulling 16,000lbs i gain speed on a 6% grade, empty once the turbo starts applying boost it will pin you in your seat. i would never go with a chrysler product over a ford or chevy, ford mostly.. happy hunting. P.S. my boss has chipped, and went to a twin turbo w/ duel intake and he has no problems with his psd. the truck is wicked powerful.

If you want an all out nice truck go with the 07 F-250 Harley Edition truck do it, they are good trucks if you maintain them right and you can only get the Harley trucks in a PSD not a little V10. But be wary if you put a programmer on a 6.0 (they can't have chips) because that will put alot of pressure on the EGR system. Leave it stock, if you program it then look at an EGR Delete, Oil Cooler Upgrade, and Headstuds and you will have a perfect truck. But they are still pretty potent in stock forum, don't be scared the 07s are the best 6.0s they came out with.
Anytime you change things from stock you are increasing the likelyhood of problems arising. If you decide to mod it, make sure you go with a reputable tuner, AFTER doing research on each tuner you are interested in.
i would have to go with a 6.0 rather than the v10 ...
with a stock 6.0 , would it be impressive power as in a srt8 ..... i test drove the srt8 cherokee and holy smokes is it ever a seat piner ........ i havent had time to go to a ford dealer to test out the 6.0
but like someone up there said ....... leave it stock and it wont have problems ... granted , but will it be enjoyable
you can only get the Harley trucks in a PSD not a little V10.
Sorry for the hijack on this, but I just couldn't ignore the irony given the PSD (in question) is 0.8L smaller than the V10. If the V10 is little, does that make the PSD tiny?
But what do I know, the motor in my truck is just a micro 5.4
Sounds to me like you plan on modding the crap out of whatever vehicle you get. Secondly, it certainly doesn't sound like you need the capability of the F250 and this is only a "status symbol" or "for fun" type purchase.
If all you want is a fast, large car. I'd look at many other options outside of a Super Duty. Yes the 6.0 can getup and move, but it's also a giant heavy SOB so keep that in mind.
Given the criteria I think you've outlined, I'd get the SRT8.
If your not going to work the truck and your looking for a hot rod I'd either look at the 08+ trucks. You can put a spartan 310 tune on it and run 13's all day. The 6.0 is a great motor but expect to spend $3000 dollars deleting the egr and studs if you are going to get a hipower tune and run it hard. I say this not because I don't like the 6.0 or think it is a bad engine. If your planning on a highend 6.0 that $3000 for upgrades could go twards the purchase price of a truck that will be faster with less money.
