Vibration AT 65mph
Hi everybody. Well I've got a vibration...more heard than felt. I can't really tell if its coming from the front or the back. It starts around 63 mph and is really noticable at 65 then starts to go away around 70. Its kind of rumbling sort of sound. I thought maybe shocks, replaced the fronts and no change. They were shot... so I'll be changing the rears this weekend. I just put new tires on (bf goodrich long trail) and had an alignment done too. I don't think it was doing this before the tires and alignment. Tires were first (at samsclub) and then alignment (brakemasters) , but I don't recall it happening right after either place. I'm thinking maybe I might have lost a weight on one of the tires... I think that happened to me before. What do you guys think? I do have to drive over rumble plates at work, maybe that shook one loose... any ideas greatly appreciated.

run your hand along the tread of the tires from front to back feel if the tire has ridges, after that run your hand ack to front, if it's feathered ( rough one way smooth the other) that could make the noise just put the tire to the other side so the smooth side faces forward, that will reduce the noise

Thanks alot for the replys... Took it back to samsclub today and had the tires rebalanced. They said only one was very slightly off. The tire guy at SAMS did say that there is some play in my front passenger wheel bearing... that makes sense doesn't it? I know they can squeal and I think I've heard that they can kind of rumble... I won't have a chance to check it until the weekend... can you tell me how to check it, myself? I looked at autozone and the bearing is only lik 12 bucks... I just hope it isn't a pain to install. Let me know if this sounds reasonable... and any advice you have... I'll check the u joints at the weekend too. Thanks again. Oh an no feathering on the tires...

Did you drive it up to speed after they rebalanced the tires? I've got a light rumble also, only noticeable after Midas replaced the U-Joints. They tried 3 sets thinking they got a bad set, and it's still there. They think either the front input bearing is going out, or the rear gears are worn, and the tight u-joints now allow the vibration to make it up into the floorboards. Kinda makes sense to me. I hadn't thought about the wheel weights though. I need to have them checked. Maybe one got knocked off.

You could just retorque the spindle nut to see if it changes. You can not just tighten it up If the sound does change then think about changing bearings before you spin a bearing. Don't put it off or you might lose a rotor or spindle don't ask me how I know. It is not a hard job but has to be done right.
