So this is probably the eleventh or twelvth post I've put up on this issue. My truck shuttering to **** when I stop. I've replaced the pads rotors shocks ball joints blah blah blah...but today I noticed something odd.... in my front drivers side leaf spring perch one of the u-bolt holes is ovalized. Would it cause that crazy shuttering if it was just one of them? Also I noticed recently that the effect is more due to weight transfer than actual braking. If I put it in reverse and give it some gas....the front end clinks when the truck starts moving. If I do have to get the perch(es) replaced...that involves cutting and welding right? Has anyone had this done? How much did you pay?
Your front leaf springs are held in position by a pin on the bottom of the spring pack. This pin indexes into a hole in the spring mount.
As long as the pin is still there and the u-bolts are properly torqued, the holes in the spring plate don't really do that much. Loose U-bolts will cause the axle to shift and make a clunking sound.
I'd make sure that the spring pack pin (it is actually a bolt that goes through the entire spring pack) is in place and that the u-bolts are properly torqued. Fix the easy stuff first.
as far as I know there really is no torque specs to u bolts. Ive done a few lifts and every lift that i have done all you do is get them as tight as you can. just tighten them up drive it for about 50 to a 100 miles and recheck them. after that i use to check mine when i filled up.
