The truck is a 88 f 150 with the 302 I'm not sure what trans I have but the door jam says code T. Its an auto with OD.
Well for a little while now I've notice my truck has absolutely no power on the highway, the more gas you give it the less it seems to accelerate. Well today I noticed it was really bad, so I downshifted to 2nd gear at 50mph and as soon as I did the engine revved up and seemed like it would pull, but it actually lost about 10mph in a few secs.
I didn't have much time to check it out but once I got off the highway I drove around town just fine, under normal acceleration. But as soon as I would give her some gas ( above 75% ) bit the trucks would just rev up and really not accelerate at all if anything it would loose speed.
So I would assume my clutches must be getting pretty wore out. I'm not a trans or drive line guy so I figured you guys could point me in the right direction.
Scary thought though, I've always told myself If I can't fix it for under a few hundred I will put the pile in the junk yard, so this may be it for my truck.
is the motor revving and the truck is not picking up speed? that would indicate tranny trouble. when is the last time you tuned the engine up? have you pulled codes?
yes the motor is revving up but its not gaining any speed, actually looses speed, especially on the high way. But casual driving its fine and accelerates with traffic just fine, just can't floor it to pass them.
I did a tune up about 1000 miles ago, which consisted of new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, coil, fuel filter, timing was set.
I have yet to pull any codes, I just noticed it was this bad as of this mornings commute to work. I will check codes hopefully tonight once I'm off work.
sounds like classic auto trans slip .. maybe search the local pick-n-pulls for a swap from a low mileage donor .. should keep it under $500, plus your time ..
Check the trans fluid level with the vehicle fully warmed up and that the TV cable is connected and operating at both the transmission and throttlebody. See the link.. YouTube - Ford AOD TV cable adjustment
I had a 92 Mustang with the AOD in it and it started doing the same, slipping under hard acceleration. I changed out the fluid and filter in it and it cleared it up.
Not sure if its the same trans in the trucks but that would be cheaper and easier than a whole new trans.
Do any of you know whats wrong with my aod if i don't have to i don't want to rebuild it i drive it for about ten min then. It wont move it just reeves up or i their only one part i can replace because for those ten minutes it shifts excellent.
before we make this guy overhaul his tranny, i just want to be clear on whats going on. when you try to accelerate, does it upshift and just not have any power to accel, or is it slipping? so is it upshifting and then holding at that rpm or do the rpms increase freely with no TC lock?
