im going to be extracting some broken exhaust manifold studs and figured I would put on some headers while I'm at it. I found these on the Roush Yates website and I was wondering if they would fit my 2000 6.8L. the information page says 2004 2v so i was wondering if they would work on an earlier model. its one of the better prices i've seen for headers and the roush name tag isnt bad either
One would think that if it fits on the 04 it should at least fit on the 99.5-04... right?
I have heard that some aftermarket headers won't clear the frame on 4x4 models, so the manifold will need to be modified, or the frame will need to be notched... It would be interesting to know if these have that problem.
If you have a smog check program in your state, make sure these are smog legal.
if you take these and plug them into the factory Cat, how would they know? Its the same exhaust going into the same Cat, why does the shape of the pipe matter? Do they look for some kind of stamp or something?
Here in CA, they do a visual inspection as well as a tail pipe test. Smog legal parts will have gone through a CARB test to be certified legal. My Thorley headers have a tag welded on a tube with the CARB number on it. The tech then can look it up in the CARB data base to verify. My Banks intake came with a sticker I placed on the radiator support. Banks, Thorley, JBA are certified CARB for some years. Gibson maybe too but I didn't consider them when I was looking. CARB meaning California Air Resources Board.
yeah, i dont have to worry about any kind of emissions up in Oregon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to try them I just have to wait for it to stop raining for more than a day at a time, maybe april or may.
But what about Global Warming?
Oops getting off topic. Going though the Header decision myself. My Dad owns a Roush 500RC F150 and a couple of buddies own Track Pac Mustangs. Everything I have seen from Roush is a Quality product.
The headers do look nice like stated above. Here is MY thoughts and you will see why I went the Thorley route. I was going to go with JBA headers. However that still left the necked down y-pipe. So here is where I ran into the legal problem. While the JBA's were CARB approved, the y-pipe mod was not, as another member found out too. So needing to replace the y-pipe and going to headers made for a set up that had both as a legal package. That left Banks and Thorley. Headman could be too but I didn't look into them at the time.
i have a local guy by my work that builds performance fords and builds ford prototypes i believe. I called him about the ford performance headers for the V10 and he said he can get them still. I will probably try them in the spring and let you guys know how they fit etc. He said theyre the same materials as the mustangs that came with factory headers and will get a brownish color to them but not rust. Just another option for headers on a V10. Also these are a shorty header.
Has anyone tried Pacesetter Quik-Trip full tube headers? I have a couple of broken studs and can't decide to do headers or just replace the studs and put my y-pipe on.
I am running the ford motorsport headers that I bought from Roush racing. They fit like a glove and I replaced them because of the exhaust bolts broke. I also have the off-road y-pipe on it and cat back duels. The truck runs 100% better. It is a job messing with the exhuast studs worse job I had ever done.
If you are going through the trouble of redoing the studs...get headers.
You are already taking it apart, go for it.
Yes, make sure they are CARB certified, as most of the better brands
are nowadays.
Rousch is just an overpriced name that does the same as any other.
As far as the Y-pipe being legal or not...it is not covered under the
emissions test.
It is not covered under the CARB certification.
A pipe is a pipe, is a pipe.
You are not affecting the emissions controls devices, as long as the O2
sensors and converter are not deleted or modified.
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT THE Y-PIPE BEING ILLEGAL.
Go for the better pipe.
