Heres the deal,
I have three trailers and one of which I never use, except for storing 4 dirt bikes. My wife has been on me for two years to sell it because it just sits on our side yard behind the others, she wants to expand the aviary. I have some free time now so I agreed and put it on craigslist this morning.Later I got an email from this guy and before I responded I opened a free secondary one. I said yes still have do you want to see it,blah, blah and then within 10 mins I get this response from him, sounds like a scam to me,what do you think

I just googled, Bank of America Certified Check scam, and apparently its a ongoing problem. Oh well, I dont need to sell it other than the wife wants the space. I have the outside top sprayed with Line-X and interior walls, floor and door sprayed as well. I think I have seven more days so we`ll see
This is normal for craigslist. I only respond to people that have the cash. If they can't meet me someplace so I can make sure I want them to know were I live or have things I blow them off.

My motto for craigslist:
cash talks, bull***** walks......
The sad part about that long-running scam lies in its longevity. If it didn't work on some percentage of the selling public, it would have faded away by now. So, a significant number of folks still fall for it. Oh, the naivety of some people!
I have a listing looking for some tire chains for a tractor, got one trying to get me to take payment (duh????) and another just stated they were ready to make the deal and were willing to meet in person... nothing more than that... delete...
Not to be mean towards you or anything, but I still wonder why people even have to question whether or not something like this is legitimate or not. I mean all over the craigslist site it says offers for checks, to have items shipped, etc.. are 100% fraudulent.
Hank, I advertise on CL a lot, and get these responses all the time. After you've been doing it for a while you can pretty much get to recognize them from their very first response, it's usually something like, "Is the item still for sale?" It's always "the item" and they won't go into specifics. For example, I had an ad running for Bumpside doors, I got a response of "Is the item still for sale?" and I sent back saying, "Which one? Do you need just one side or both?" and they ignored that and went on with a response very much like the one you posted above. Sometimes I just ignore them and don't respond further, and sometimes I send them back a very nasty post, depending on my mood and available time.
Just be careful, because now they're even offering to pay you by PayPal which is supposed to be safe, but they've got a way figured around it.
