has anyone here tried to put a 92-96 front end on thier 80-86 truck? i like the looks of that model front end better, and need to replace the front fenders anyways.. i know the body lines would line up, i just wonder about the door to fender meeting point and where the hood mates to the cab. i have seen a 88 up converted to a 95 front end... it looks like it came factory that way. would this work on my 85 or am i just dreaming? lol any input would be appreciated.
The swap can be done fairly easy. Just a bolt at the bottom of the fender, it can be left out. just buildind bumper brackets need to be built to mount the newr bumper. Just when you do the swap pull the frontend as a whole clip because you'll need the newer model core support. and piecing the clip together will be alot harder (if can be done that way) then to unbolt core support and fender bolts and slide on. We did one few months back it took use about 4 hours to complete the swap. We are building a wench bumper for it now so not sure on how to do the stock bumper mounts
I just put a 96 front clip on my 1980 stepside. I chose to modify the bottom bolt so it would bolt on and look more finished. Mounted quite easy and body lines match up well. Working on the bumper mounts, waiting for a cowl hood.
Will post pics when finished.
Or ou can go to US Body(usbody.com) and get a complete front end to, only its fiberglass, one piece and fiberglass. Hey 66mercman: You wouldn't happen to have a picture of that conversion on the stepside? I to have a stepside and it needs new front fenders and thats what i want to do but i'm unsure of the mismatch in fenders because the newer ones have different flares on them.
I have pics for everything I've done, but I need to get them developed and scanned, unfortunatly no digi cam yet. I think it looks alright, I shaved my emblems, door handles, gas door, welded the stake holes, Cowl hood, billet grill. I have a 6-7" drop and C-section. Mounted a 460, edelbrock RPM intake, Street Avenger 770 carb, headers.
Might be a while till I can get some pics posted, I'm pretty busy with Demo Derby and Mud Bog coming up. email me @ bwallcraft(No Email Addresses In Posts!) with ?'s and I'll send pics when I can.
