XLT should have the 9.75 rear end. FX4's have the larger size. The sticker on the door will tell you what axle size you have after you decode it. I beleive it's a letter that you need to translate to a number.

4.6 2v motor = 8.8 axle
5.4 3v motor = 9.75 axle
5.4 3v motor with Heavy Duty package = 10.25 axle (7 lug)

what does your door sticker say in the axle part? that part is what tells you whether you have a 3.55, 3.55LS, 3.73, 3.73LS, or 4.10 (heavy duty only) gearset

Oh yes sorry. Thanks Tylus. XLT is 3.55 (mine is LS) and FX4 is 3.73(LS). I mixed that up with the axle size.

not exactly goracer

some XLT's have 3.73...but the majority are 3.55. and not all FX4 are 3.73...if you bought a FX4 Lux with 20's, it was supposed to have 3.55 gears.

the only 100% factor is the axle size. after that, you must look-up the door sticker tag for the gearset

Thank you for the info It turned out to be an 8.8 with 3.73 now could anyone tell me if 2008 axle shaft will fit into a 2001 f150 rear end . Other then the 5 lug to six lug. I know where I can get a new rear end rotor to rotor from a 2001 f150 from a closed dealership. would need to change axles for the six lug, or did they change the bearing size. Thanks "Tank"
