Thanks to everyone who has replied to my previous posts. I'm a new diesel owner and while all the information is sort of making my head swim, I do believe I'm beginning to figure out things. Here is what I believe I'm going to do, and sort of wanted any of your input. I've been told some of the after market air filters and intake systems don't do as good a job as advertised. So what would you think of leaving the stock air filter, but upgrading to a 4 inch exhaust and adding the 2nd step on a chip? As I noted before, I have a 2003 7.3L that will be used for daily driving and pulling a 10,000 lb RV trailer 4-5 times a year.
If you take care of the stock intake, it isnt bad, but I would still recomend changing it out to the 6637.
Second step on the Chip? Not sure what you are refering to, MOST chips and tuners require gages, Exhaust being really important. So, whose chip and what are you looking at?
I agree with Pat.If you install the 6637 you might want to go ahead and do the CCV mod anf get that out of the way.Clay(Riffraff)has a kit that will be easy enough for ya.
Or the S-B intake system, another real good filtering system out there with plenty of airflow. My recomendations would be a air intake or 6637 filter, 4 inch exhaust and gauges, tranny, boost and pyro since your towing heavy like Pat suggested. Then you can move onto a nice custom chip from a few select tuners we have here, DP, Tony Wildman, PHP and a few others. Stay away from the off the shelf chip gadgets. Welcome to FTE.

Let's not forget about the tranny's valve body, guys. [ I'm assuming he has an auto 4r100 in the driveline.]
Once you let the engine breath with more air through a better flowing/filtering intake and bigger exhaust, and then add the power of the chip... your tranny is the next weakest link.
Next in the lineup would a bigger tranny cooler, IMHO. For every 20 degF you can drop your tranny temps, you'll double the remaining life of your fluid and hardware.
