Do a search, covered in the past. It takes a key on the end of the crank handle. I got my spare down by jamming a socket over the adapter using a real long socket extension and lateral pressure. Others have used stripped bolt removing tool. Once you get the tire down, you can remove the adapter and not have to worry again.

9/16 inch socket fits over the locking device. Go to harbor freight get a $,50 socket hammer it on and leave it. Then use a socket wrench to raise and lower it. Or a drill as I do.
