I just bought another toy, a 1970 cord which is a replica of a 37 cord. Read a lot on line but mine is not fitting the "normal" The one I got is a 440 Dodge and has the hidden headlight and most of the replica's do not. Anyone know anything much about these? They were built in Broken Arrow Ok. Thought maybe someone from that area might know someone that worked for SAMCO which is the company that built mine.
Link to picture's. I have no idea how to post pictures here.
Thanks
Larry
Sweet project, always liked the looks of those cars. What model Dodge is it built on. Sorry I don't have the answer to your question but thanks for sharing your project with us.
Here's some info I found at 1937 Cord Sportsman Replica Convertible for sale on ClassicCarsGlobal.com, looks like the company that built these was named Samco...
1937 CORD SPORTSMAN, You are looking at a 1970 Samco Cord Royal replica of the famous 1936 and 1937 Coffin Nose Cord Sportsman. Samco which stands for Specialty Automobile Manufacturing Company, made 2 different versions, one with a 302 Ford engine and the Royal model powered by the powerful 440 Chrysler engine and Chrysler automatic transmission. This particular car has been modified from most Samco models by attempting to make it look more like the original Cord with the flip out headlights and an opening trunk. She runs good and has new dual exhaust. She needs someone to complete the restoration. As far as I can tell, just about everything is there to put her back together. There may be a little something missing, but it will be a very little. She was originally a Yellow car but now has hotrod black primer like a rat rod. I have heard that there are still a lot of parts available in Oklahoma where the cars were built. I am told that a Samco recently sold for $60,000 on Ebay, This car needs some restoration but will be nice and ready to go for a lot less than $60,000. I have also provided a couple of photos of the Samco Factory. Give me a call and let's talk. I feel that my price of $9,000.00 is very fair for a collector car like this one with the potential that this car has. Thanks guy's for the info. The car I have is on a 108" wheel base and according to all I find on line it should have a ford 302. The cars with the 440 were on a 113"
I am not sure what frame they used. It has a ford 9" rear and the shifter looks like a 60's mustang. The ignition, light and wiper switches are ford. Most I have sen on line used a econoline front axle. The one I bought has independent front suspension and chev. brake drums.
I need to get it on the lift so can really look it over. I just got home with it and it started snowing again so it's still on trailer and really need a lot more looking it over. I think it weighs about 3000 lbs so with the 440 it should really be quick. I still have to finish the bed sides and tailgate and will be way down the road toward the end on the 55 pickup and it will be ready to drive.
