What gauge extension cord do you run to your heater ?

I'll be getting a 50 foot extension cord I just picked up CGIF outlet plug and not quite sure what type of cord someone told me 14 gauge would be fine I live in Washington State thanks

I'm assuming you're referring to the block heater? They are typically 10A draw or less; your 14-gauge 50-foot cord would be fine.

Personally, I would buy a 12 gauge extension cord. I would spend the money up front for it and not have to worry about needing a heavier duty extension cord in the future.

Or I would make an extension cord. Go to lowe's or HomeDepot and buy 50ft of #12-2 SO or SOW wire with ground, heavy duty male and female ends and make it. Would be a lot better cord than you can buy in a store and probably cheaper. The SO or SOW is thicker outer covering which is oil and chemical resistant along with not being affected by the sunlight.

14 gauge is ok. I use that here when 40 below.

If i was where it really got cold I would have a circulating block heater, oil pan heater, battery warmers and interior warmer. That might justify a heavier cord.

A 16 gauge cord will handle a block heater with only about 3 volt drop.
