refuses to crank!!!

i took the serp belt off to lessen resistance, but will my 96 7.3 psd still crank without it?? ive got two 900 cca amp batteries that i know are hot, but it still takes only about 6-8 sec for the motor to stop cranking over.. any ideas??

Lesson the resistance for..... I hoppe you don't plan on driving wiyh out the belt lol I don't know what your treying to accomplish, what will cool the motor or keep the batteries charged or run the vaccum system or give you steering?

I'd replace all the battery cables. My starter cable had come loose from the factory terinal, so I cut the insulation to put a regular terminal, and the copper wire was already turning green. I am running it like that for now, but will be replacing it this month. My tractor's positive cable also needed replacing last mont for the same thing. It looked prefect from the outside, but was toast on the inside.

cables or starter, I'd start with your cables, very common for them to rot from the inside out due to too many amps......
