8 lug rims

I've got an 82 heavy duty 4x2 f-250 with 8-lug rims. I know that newer Ford 8 lug have different lug spacing, but what about rims from Dodge or Chevy? My current rims are 16 inch factory steel with center caps and are really boring. I'd like to update the rims, but within a budget. What rims would work? Are there special clearance issues that I need to be aware of?

Thanks

All older pre-1994 Dodge and all Ford up until the SuperDuty changeover to the metric pattern will interchange, as in you can use Ford wheels on a Dodge and vice-versa.

The later Dodge have the same pattern, but more negative offset and may not clear such things as tie-rod ends and calipers.

ALL 8-lug Chevys are still 8 on 6-1/2 pattern, BUT the center hole is about 1/4-inch too small to clear a Ford or Dodge hub; thus, you can mount Ford or Dodge wheels on a Chevy, but not vice-versa.

The Chevys are actually hub-centric AND lug-centric at the same time and use plain old conical nuts.

The later Dodge and Ford wheels that are hub-centric use flat-faced compression-washer equipped nuts.

Are you more confused now than you were before ??

I've heard of people opening those centers up, even with exhaust tube spreaders. I seem to be able to find metric 8 lug alloys way cheaper and with 16 or 17" tire sizes opposed to that 16.5 guff. It ends up being less than 5mm difference in the bolt circle. My die grinder can open that up lol

The later model Chevy wheels might work; but, any FACTORY ISSUE Chevy prior to 1987 is going to have the smaller center-hole.

I can't speak for later stuff, because after about 1991 (the newest truck I own), I don't mess with it.

Hmm, these are all good to know... But what about my oddity? F150 5-lug front hugs, and F250 8 lug rears? I've been trying to find a set of wheels that match, and look good lol.
