Okay here is the story truck has 57,000 miles and out of warranty 26th of this month. was in last month for oil leak and cold starting problems. supposedly repaired oil leak and replaced FICM and did newest flash.
Fast forward to today,
Taking truck back in Monday for the same oill leak, and commented I wouldn' be charged $100 again and the service writer said won't know for sure until they take a look at it I commented I would be unhappy if they asked me to pay another $100 for same oil leak well it is leasking off the same bell housing anyway. Also I told him my oil temp and cooling temp was running on highway around 13 deg diff and wondered if the oil cooler might be restricted and asked wouldn't the new flash throw a code if difference got 15 deg apart. He was unsure and mech had already left for the day. Question is shouldn't they do something cause warranty is close even if 2 deg short of limit?
If they don't address the temp difference issue and you plan to keep the truck, I myself would get a ESP warranty before the 5 years runs out. You will get 2 more years piece of mind.
sorry but as a tech we can not fix it at 13 degrees. fixing something that is close to broke is called over repair. I know its not a popular awnser but its the facts of our limits. If a tech were to "fix it" the repair is subject to charge back if the part is returned ti fird for testing and inspection.
and yes the info as it pertains to the temp differance is in the tsb for the reflash.
Cheezit, Would you predict failure soon? what if i towed 5th wheel on a trip before warranty ran out and it got to the trigger point and threw a trouble code would that trigger cleaning or replacement of EGR valve and or oil cooler? Not trying to screw Ford just being retroactive.
it coild but it might also create an issue were no problem is found. I have found the best way to test for the issue is to drive in 2nd or 3rd gear for about 5 miles at wot (about 45mph at 4000 rpm) and see what you get for temp. if you try this make sure to give the truck a few min to idle down to temp before turning it off.
Okay just got back from trying this and i have to say it was nerve wracking. Coolant got up to about 202 and climbing and oil temp was 213. I stopped there cause I didn't know what to expect. temps seemed high to me but spread wasn't as much as just 75 on the freeway. I expected the coolant to peak out at 195 maybe but it just kept on climbing.
probally drove 3 miles before I quit.
temps seem good. They start to heat up at 212 and the fan should go 100% duty cycle at that temp. Ive had them up to 225 before, wil no ill effects.... all part of my job I guess.
