Cool Turn Signal Cam

My turn signals do not work even close to properly. When i turn the left signal on it just stays lit and doesnt flash. When i turn the right signal on both sides flash like the hazard lights. I changed the flasher, no dice. I figured it might be the turn signal cam so i got a new one. Worth to replace for $10 I guess. Does it sound like the cam or a wiring problem?

So I just pulled the steering wheel off and there is the cam, held by a little stud thing. But i cant figure how to get it out of there with out prying on it and breaking something or destroying the stud and not being able to get the new one to hold in place. I did a search but didnt find anything on how to get it out of there. I got the clip of the stud but cant figure out how to get the old cam out of there. So my question is how do i get the old cam out of there without breaking anything? And if the old one isnt physically broken do i need to replace it? If anything i would like to take the old one out and clean the connections because they are all pretty scummy lookin.

The truck is a '78 F150 no tilt or cruise control. Thanks in advance, any help is extremely appreciated. FTE Rules!!! lol

I'm not an expert on this, but mine is also in need of replacement (I bought one a year ago, have yet to install it). I searched way back when, and I remember some one saying you had to grind the heads off of the factory pins, remove the old cam, grind the rest of the pin down flat, drill a hole where the old pins were and use a couple of screws to hold the new cam in place. I'm sure others will chime in.

That really sux. I dont really want to grind it off and have to make something work. I dunno. I just dont want to make this a problem if i dont exactly need to change the cam. I could try to find another whole turn signal switch but i dunno.

What year's switches will work in the '78? Numberdummy?

There is a junkyard relatively close and very cheap i could probably get one from but before i drive all the way there and get it I want to make absolutely sure that it will work. Please help I need to get these figured out asap. Im currently out of a vehicle (see 81 in sig) and this dent will be my dd. although im dreading the thirsty 351m.

I just got finished replacing my entire turn signal switch. The two problems I had were the lack of turn signal cancellation (which was due to a broken turn signal cam) and a hazard light switch that was shorted somewhere and kept blowing the fuse.

I'm doubtful the turn signal cam alone will solve your problems as it is strictly for turn signal cancellation. Maybe you are referring to the entire turn signal switch? The cam is the white piece mounted onto the switch.

The full switch comes out rather easily once the steering wheel is off - except for the wiring. If you replace the entire switch you'll need to fish the wires from the new switch through the steering column - pretty much a pain in the a** (recommend you pull the protective sleeve out from the lower base of the column and feed the wires through there after you get them through the column with a clothes hanger).

I got a new switch from rockauto for around $45. Came with fitments already crimped to each wire that popped into the OEM connector under the dash.

Mine is a '77 250, so your switch may be slightly different.

I'm going to putting my new switch in tonight. My question is what to do with the **** that is supplied on the new TSS. I got my from rock auto and I assume it is my cancellation switch. Do I take that wire on the **** to ground?
