Adding led running lights above step??

Not sure I like the recon "big rig" look of running lights the whole length of the steps. I was thinking maybe 2 led lights Maxxima® Chromed Bezel Oval LED Clearance Light - Yellow - Mfg# AXP5Y-KIT
on each side (front and rear bracket) of the mounting brackets of the ford oem chrome steps here...

not the best pic..its my first... but you get the idea. Its flat, and 6" wide. What do you think??
Where would I tap into running lights??

You can tap into either the Tail lights, or the parking lamps on the front. You could even tie them into your blinkers!

Parking lights up front sounds like the place to tap into.

Funny thing.. no one has any opinions... however if I do it and they look great...everyone will want to see pics

All right. I am no good with computers so hopefully it worked. I added two pictures in my gallery album leds, at least I hope. My truck is a CC so I put 6 lights on each side. I first got a piece of aluminum flat bar and mounted it under the doors using the cab step bolts. Measured everything to get my spacing, and marked the first one. Took the alum. bar off the truck and marked the other lights. I did set the lights on just to see if everything was ok. Drilled holes for the mounts, bar went back on truck, used a small bit and drilled pilots for some ss self-tappers for the mounts. Oh yeah, forgot to mention drilling holes for the wires, so I had three holes for each light. Used some grommets, wired them up and I actually ran them to the 4-pin connector. When towing, I always use the seven-pin so it was no biggie. The only problems in 4 years was twice I had the wires corroded right at the plug end of the light harness due to road salt getting in there, easy fix though.

looks good. the install looks clean and you covered the ugly pinch welds. did you consider using a washer in between your mounting plate and the truck body. i'm thinking that you would be able to get the road salt out from behind the mounting plate. post some night pics when you get a chance.

ecky,

Nice job on the running board lights. Looks similar to what I have planned for my Truck. I'm probably going to go with white lights (are yours yellow running lights?).
I am looking forward to seeing how yours look at night.

I just want mine to come on when the doors are open to help passengers see the kodiak steps for safe exit and entry into the Truck.

Night pic added, some glare but ya get the idea. Mine are the amber lights. I'm not sure what wire to splice into so they come on when the doors are open, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find out.

It will be easy for me when the time comes. I pre-wired for the step lights when I replaced a motor (stripped gear) in one of my 4 Kodiak steps. I serviced the other 3 steps at the same time so I got them all ready for lights. By design,,, only the light above each individual step will come on when a door is open.

re: night photo...
The yellow running board lights look bright. It looks like you have them hooked up to your head/parking lights? or is there a door open on the drivers side I can't see in the photo?

They are hooked to the parking lights. They are pretty bright. My one younger brother hates it while the other one loves it.

Looks really nice! I had standard-bulb marker lights there also but I mounted them right on the pinch weld piece. When I raised the factory steps it blocked them and now you can't see them. You can see the glowing light though. I occasionally think about where I can move them to so that you can see them.

Nice work.

Later...
