I have a 2007 F-150 Regular Cab 4WD 4.6V8 Auto w/ 52,000 miles. I can feel a slight shudder when accelerating or slowing down at 25-30 mph. I have all new brakes and tires, but this problem started before that work was done.
Any ideas?
Not sure....do the 4.6L trucks have an external transmission cooler? If not, add one while you're changing the fluid/filter. It'll save you money in the long run.
If it shudders when you slowly take off it mite be the slip yoke on the trans output. It was on mine, a little lithium grease on the splines and no more problem.
So, I had the tranny flushed and still have the problem. It's NOT the "clunk" from the slip yoke. I have a vibration / shudder at around 25-27 mph (going straight, not turning) both accelerating and decelerating.
Hate to take it to the dealer, but ....
So, last week the dealer performed a TSB (09-20-14) that he thought would help. It didn't.
Took it back today for the same symptoms. Dealer just called and they are putting a new tranny in it under warranty (58,525 miles).
Great service. Very commited to customer satisfaction.
Have had the new (Ford rebuilt) tranny in the truck for about 1200 miles. STILL have a harsh downshift at 25mph. The Ford engineer drove the truck and attributed it to "normal tolerance stack".
Yeak, OK. How come it didn't do it when the truck was new? He couldn't answer that. Both the engineer and the lead mechanic at the dealer feel it and agree that it is there, but cannot give me a decent explanation for the shudder I feel at 25 mph when coming to a stop.
Frustrating .... to say the least.
