I am changing a UVCH today and I was wondering if there is any thing I can do to troubleshoot the injectors while I'm in there. I have a lot of noise coming, from what I believe to be, injectors. Any hints or ideas? Thanks
Yes, start the engine and watch the oil discharge from each injector. Make sure they all look the same. If one's spitting too much or too little oil, or it's coming out from more than just the spout, then you may have found an injector issue.
OK, I changed the UVCH and started it up and I found nothing out of order. Everything is torqued correctly and it seemed to be oiling good and does not appear that any push rods are bent. However, there is a hammering noise that I can't figure out.
I guess the next step is to run a CCT and a buzz test and see if all the injectors are working properly. I can take it to a shop that I trust that has a lot of experience with powerstrokes and get them to run the tests. Thanks for your help.
So I go to a buddy who has a Mister Transmission shop to see if he can do a buzz test. He says follow me and next thing we are at the back door of the Ford dealership and out comes the tech with his gear and runs a series of tests. CCT is fine and can find no problems. That's good news. Better news, is no charge. I say I can still hear a noise, he says he doesn't. I'm going to go with those who know and let it ride. My buddy did offer some advice---he says maybe the old guy needs a hearing aid.
Oh well, run her till she quits and throw your saddle on a fresh one.
Thanks for the help and advice guys.
Maybe you need to have the injectors removed and tested on a bench. That will tell you if the holes are plugged up, if they are spraying properly or if they are spraying at the appropriate volume.
