I am probably starting to ask some pretty seriously stupid questions, but I just love enlisting the knowledge of fellow SD drivers.
Since picking my dually up 5 days ago, I have racked up a few miles and have very much enjoyed the truck.
Today was the first time I was able to drive her in any crappy weather and noticed that without mud flaps the rear fenders seem to be a magnet for this lovely black strip of road grime that builds up along the upper ridge.
Now I know that mud flaps will help. I have done some looking around the net but have found so many that I am officially confused.
I would love to have some opinions on what you guys have put on your DRWs and why you love or hate them?
Not to mention I was sliding out of a parking lot today trying to get into traffic, rear tires spinning away in the slush when I realized I was putting a heavy coat of road grime on the police car behind me. --- Luckily his windshield wipers worked well, and so did his sense of humor.
While I don't have a drw, I've just ordered a factory set because I'm tired of the crud accumulating on the running boards. I've got a King Ranch and with all of the snow we've had this winter, I've decided 'enough is enough' and installing the mudflaps.
If you spend a lot of road time, the flaps will also cut down on the road grime and tar that tends to be thrown up.
You still will get the road mist along the side of the truck. Only time I'll get the clumps on the truck is when making turns.
With the extra tires on the back the weight of the truck is spread between the 4 tires making it want to spin. Let off the gas a little it will help. Also I put the BFG AT on the truck and that made a world of difference in the snow and mud. The tires in these pictures are stock ones that came on when ordered.
Give parts guy Ed www.partsguyed.com a shout and see what he has for a drw as nothing fits better than OEM.
When I took delivery there where no OEM mud flap for DRW. The Duraflaps are really easy to put on and are good and stiff. I'm sure there are plenty of other after market Mud flaps that are just as good.
I second the duraflap motion. They really help keeping the mud off the doors. The only downside is the flap will fill with mud. On muddy days I usually need to kick the mud off.
Mine is a srw, but I put universal fit flaps with Stainless bottom inserts. The rubber gives them alot of flex, but the Stainless inserts give them weight so they don't flap in the wind.
They are way more durable then any rigid flap, while also looking great.
