Sudden backfiring?

See if it starts when it's cold. If it does, replace the coil.

A coil going out will cause the truck to run like it's running out of gas - backfiring and all, then it just dies.

A coil going bad will run when it's cold and as soon as the engine gets hot, it will die. Starts righ back up again when it cools off.

Happened to me - just a thought.

Thanks, hopefully thats the problem, it would make sense as it's been having these problems when it's been running pretty well on the highway for a little bit.

Check for intake manifold/gasket leaks, spray some choke cleaner around the mating surfaces while it's idling, changes in idle speed/smoothness will tell you when you hit the bad spot. LOL
