Overheating?
Started up the iron horse this morning and hitched up the 9500 # travel trailer and headed down the road after about a mile I headed up the ramp onto the Interstate and got her up to about 60 and saw that the temp gauge was rising rapidly, much faster than normal, after about a mile it showed almost to the red so I slowed her down, pulled off to the side and shut her down, opened the hood, the top radiator hose wasn't even warm and felt like it had no coolant in it, the coolant level was normal, got towed back to the campground and several hours later the temp gauge still shows very warm while the engine is cold.....
My first though was a stuck thermostat, now I'm wondering if it is a faulty temp sending sensor... Any ideas guys?

my last truck did that exact same thing, i replaced the sensor and it still did it. i thnk its a wire issue some were, it was very intermitent thoe and only did it for 1 day consistenly then fine for a couple weeks. but if you know your truck, then we know they cant warm up that fast lol i think its just a sensor, try that and go from there

Well, I replaced the sensor today and all seemed well, drove the truck and trailer over 100 miles and all ws well, then went to take a short drive with just the truck and the temp guage shot all the way to the top again, it's beem shut off for 4 hours now and when I turn the ignition on the gauge rises all the way to the top...

I had a similar problem where the gauge started reading hotter and hotter and eventually the needle was constantly in the mid to upper range on the gauge, even with a cold engine. I replaced to sensor but I think all that was bad was the push on connector for that sensor which was corroded and broke when I pulled it off to change the sensor. Needless to say I replaced the wire and then everything worked fine.

test or replace your radiator cap. If it's not holding pressure for some reason it can do this. I'd pressure test the whole system if you can. It sounds like it's getting air in it. That can happen if you cap isn't allowing the coolant to go back in.
Also have you actually pulled the cap and looked at the level in the radiator? What you describe sounds an awful lot like air in it after you replace a thermostat or something.
