Cool Oil smell and overheating

The 95 in my sig just recently got GT40 heads with Mr Gasket superseal headgaskets,Crane Cams 1.7 RR's, and new OEM Ford Racing Lifters........I've driven her 4 times since I finished with her and 3 of the 4 she overheated.I don't know if the first two times was because of a brand new defective Tstat or not.2 Days ago i drove her granpa style fer over a half hour then was able to run her a little hard without problems.I drove her yesterday to let my Brother In law ride in her and she overheated even after letting her warm up for the usual 5 minutes. When I got her home I left her running with the temp gauge pinned at the L on my stock gauge...I do have an aftermarket but haven't hooked it up yet......I popped the hood, got out and felt the upper hose...which was hot and very firm/spongy.The reservoir overflowed and blew the top off (all cold coolant). When I got close after letting her cool down fer about an hour and took the rad cap off...there is a strong smell of oil....However there is no HINT of water in my oil. What's goin on here? It's starting to drive me up the wall....If I gotta tear it apart again then I gotta tear it apart..I just won't be too happy about it..Thanks all and have a good holiday!

You said you already replaced the t-stat with a new one, right? Did you use dowel pins so the head gaskets went on good? I'm just thinking out loud.

Yea, I just put on a new 180 and it semmed to work ok....the old one I had...which was a brand new 195 superstat was bad and wouldn't pop open in boiling water.......dowel pins......good thing you think out loud....the heads seemed to line up good on the block...guess I'll have to check my old heads to see if the dowel pins are stuck in there...dammit.......Later

Are you sure you didn't put the t-stat in backwords? If that isn't the problem you may have trapped air in the motor. Run it up to temp with the rad cap off and refill as the level drops.

Well, Paul...I surehope not cause otherwise there's alot of liars on here ha ha ha....The spring is facing IN towards the block with the pointed end facing toward the radiator....Correct I assume.....that would give me any oil smell in the radiator though would it?I flushed everything out pretty darn good.....Thanks Paul.
