Question Knock

Today a noise started in my 7.3 Diesel.

As I throttle up ever so easy I get this knocking sound. As you gain rpm it goes away. If you throttle up fast no noise.

It sounds like when I have in the past sprayed starting fluid in a gas engine. Its very light knock but its there.

Welcome to the forum.. Give us some more info on the knock on your 99. Does the engine have a long lead injector on #8?.. Mine was making weird knocking, crackling noises and it turned out to be a bad #8 injector.. Ford has a modified injector for a fix for #8... or..
maybe you got some bad fuel.

Try sending a private message to Ford 2002.. (since it was an old post)

KNOCK in 2003 F-250 7.3L

Its a 2003 with the 7.3L 4x4 102K miles I purchased the truck on eBay and sold my 99 because it had 200K miles (nothing wrong with it) just wanted to upgrade when the truck pulled up I noticed it right away it sounds like a normal 7.3 but just a little louder than my 99 and any of my co workers 7.3 fords (5 others) has good power, no smoke other than the edge programmer i've got a straight pipe 4" turbo back, intake, etc. i'm real meticulous i've ran stanadyne, tried #1 & #2 diesel, i've used every kind of diesel clean you can imagine thinking it was a clogged injector obviously changed fuel filter, added 2 qts power punch to the last 2 oil changes and nothing has changed the noisy engine, havent checked for air in fuel or pulled the valve cover to see if I have an LL injector on #8.... think its a possability for either?

wow wing...u pulled up one old thread for sure! welcome to a great place.

First thing I'de do it to check that #8 for LL, I know how jacked up the drivers side is with the harness and what not in the way, but if you know wats in there then you can draw a sharper image to the problem.

Take the oil fill cap off and let it sit in the tub....does it wanna jump out or does it ruffle a little bit? Also about how much white comes outa the oil fill tube with the oil fill cap off?

Just curious ... can you explain the above in more detail.. are you referring to the smoke jumping and ruffling ?
