Tires?

I need to get new tires for my truck. What are some of the better brands out there? I have BFG AT's (295x75x16) on the truck now. Are Goodyear any good?

it depends some on your location, use, expected weather conditions, etc. If your truck is a highway driver a lot of people here have Goodyear Silent Armor's, although there are various tread designs in those. If you want something more aggressive Terragrapplers? by Nitto I think.....

I know I have Michelin's on the excursion right now,,, the one's I have are a decent all season tire, but I want to go to something more aggressive for true all season. The F350 has pretty much highway treads.... its main application is heavy hauling on road. I am good with Cooper, Goodyear, BF Goodrich, and Michelin. I am not a firestone fan....IMHO the biggest thing on tires is keep them under 4 years old and you won't have much trouble.

I love my Nittos, mostly because they are affordable and get great traction. However, if you dont rotate them often dont bother with them, they are soft. my .02

I have Nittos also. 285s I believe. Guy at local used tire place sold me the set for 430 something with tax, mounting, balancing, and new stems. He said he wouldnt charge me too much because he wanted to see these tires for himself.

Dyna, your prolly not gona get a straight answer, but lots of good advice. Tirerack.com has a survey that might be helpful or not.
One thing to keep in mind, and it might be just me, but I wouldn't go down in tire rating; ie, I'm keeping E rated tires, that way I can load my truck to its rated capicity if needed.
Bud or Miller?
good luck.

Also, if you go wider or whatever, make sure you get appropriate rims. Nothing worse than a tire getting worn out quick cause you didnt get the right size rim.

ding ding ding. Very good point. if u go with a 285, it is too wide for a stock rim and will wear out much faster

Yea, I think stock was a 7" rim?? When I bought my 1st set of 285s (Yokohamas) I upgraded to an 8" IIRC. Very good idea to upgrade.

I just put GoodYear Wrangler SilentArmors on mine, and they are awesome! They are load range E, and I stuck with the 265s, but they do come in 285s if you want to go wider. They're very highly rated -- actually better than the Michelins I was looking at. So far, I rate them a 10. If they last long like they're supposed to, it'll be a 10+.

I had 285 Bridgestones as my last set that came with the truck but I got a killer deal on some slightly used Michelin M/S 285s and went with those sadly they are D rated. So far I really love the ride of them.

I am on my second set of Wrangler Silent Armors. The first set, I got 65,000 miles on and then put them on a friends f150 and he will get another 20,000 out of them. They are great tires! They ride good, quiet and are great in snow. Not so great in mud, but I don't go in the mud very often anyway (8K lb truck + deep mud = sunk!). As someone mentioned eariler, if you don't keep them rotated, it won't matter what you put on, they will wear badly. By the way, both sets I have had on my truck were 305-70-16 on stock 7" rims.....I know, I know, too wide, won't work, etc, but if rotated every 5K miles, they will wear forever. By the way, I also pull a 15K lb 5er with these tires and they are stable as a rock. I am touting these tires and I am not a Goodyear fan. This is the only Goodyear tire I have liked, but you can't beat success!

I run the silent armours on my truck too, 285s but in a 17 inch. My review on tehm would be like what westpad said.

I also used to work as a tire guy. Ive mounted lots of 285's on a stock rim, and they do wear a little poorer, but not as bad as you would think.

Lots of times when we reccomended a wider rim, the person would just use the excuse that he would rather spend the money on a set of tires a little sooner then new rims.
