Yet another ABS question .
I have a 98 expy EB 4WD .Last few days the ABS kicks in for no reason on dry pavement ( even tho it's canada and yes its winter but I mean on dry pavement , not snow or ice ) specialy if i slightly turn steering left or right .It's an off and on situation tho .No ABS light comes on .
I know it's a sensor issue or bad connection or a bad module .
My question is , can I disable the ABS by simply removing fuse ?I Know it would disengage the A4WD system but i rarely use it .Truck mostly runs on 2HI or I engage 4HI from PARK if i need it in snow or bad conditions since the 98 model has the possibility to disengage the A4WD ( I dont like how the A4WD engages abruptly sometimes and my transfer case isnt as young ) I know It'd be better to simply have it checked but what am saying is , Would it be bad doing so ? Since its winter here it would be hard to do outdoor work on truck to look around and replace sensors .

I had that same problem in my '97, only happened for a short while. My ABS light has been on intermittently since Ive bought it, and I found a rubbed through wire on the front drivers ABS sensor. For some reason the mounting allowed it to rub against the tire and eventually rubbed through. I fixed it and no longer seem to have the ABS activation, but my ABS light is still on. The code says ABS motor problem, but the light comes and goes very intermittently, so Im not sure what is actually causing that problem or caused the ABS issue.

If it were a sensor or wiring issue the ABS light would be on. Your problem is one of the ABS exciter rings is damaged or the sensor has debris stuck to it at one of the wheels.

You could try it, but there's no guarantees. Pulling the wheel off and getting a good look in there is the best way to check it out.

I never thought to remove the sensor and clean off the mounting; if that is what you are suggesting.
