HELP ME!!! NO BRAKE LIGHTS!!!!

i hope someone can help me out here i have a 2001 f250 with a 5.4l and i have no brake lights all of a sudden. i checked the fuse and it was blown so i went and put a new fuse in, with in 3 seconds the new fuse blew and i didnt even touch the break pedal yet. does anyone know what might be the problem, i am thinking there is a short ...a broken wire somewhere between the fuse panel under the dash and the the tail lights. does anyone know a easy way to troubleshoot this problem..let me also add that i do have tail lights,blinkers, backup lighs and hazards. i hope someone can shed some light on this problem for me and thanks to whoever can help me out

Prob is prob a shorted wire in your trailer brake connector. You gotta actually take it apart to find it. Most likely in the 7 pin plug, but COULD be in the 4 pin one.

I had this exact same problem. I took it to the dealer to have the recall done for the cruise control/steering colum fire issue. The recall also took care of the brake light issue. Be sure tomention your brakes light work. I'll bet you cruise control does not work, either.

its not the cruise control problem i had that recall fixed a few years ago.. the 7 pin plug for the trailer brake is connected inline with the brake lights. i was lookng a a wire diagram in my repair book and i didnt see that i only saw that in the excursions

The circuits to the trailer connector are relayed and fused separately. A short at the 7-pin plug will blow the appropriate trailer connector fuse, but can't affect the trucks brake light fuse.

I'm assuming you don't have a trailer connected to your truck when this is happening. I had a similiar issue a while back, and it was due to a bare wire shorting out on the trailer causing the fuse in the truck to blow. Just a thought.
