anyone know something about a locking front differential on a 63 f250 4x4 (mines not a locking front). i'm pbly getting ahead of myself because they are expensive but ND tells me there is an nos kit out there pblm is i have no clue as to whether this is something you just pop into the front diff or if i can use it around the farm or if it locks the front up all the time making the truck not so good for your average part time farmer. i have called on aftermaret stuff and i hear they can be noisy, and there are different versions that work differently. basically i'm clueless on this one. my last truck was a full time 4x4 79 f250 so i didn't have to use my brain too much.
pbly to much money for my budget anyway but it is winter so it's buy parts time till spring.
A LS is probobly best for a frond diff. A locker tends to eat tires and U joints in the front axle.
Unless you are doing some serrious mudding or rock crawling a Open front and an LS or posi rear will do you well. In my mind a posi or LS in the front axle is a waste of money. Dont drive places you dont belong with a truck. If you heed my advice this will save you about $1000.
good advice. none of that getting stuck cr_p for me flipklos, done enough of pulling stuff out from trucks to machinery (even pulled a few cattle and pigs ). actually i mainly want the limited slip front just for the novelty of having it in a 63.
It is a dana 44 front axle I belive. Try a detroit true trac. That is what alot of hardcore whelers use if their truck has to double as a daily driver. It is an "inteligent" LS diff. It transfers 40% of available torque to the gripping wheel. It supposedly has good turning ability also. One drawback is it only works in forward. Try detroits website. I found it fairly informative.
