Would the vacuum pump cause the check engine light to come on? This morning when leaving for work the check engine light came on and did not go off. When I got to work about a 10 minute drive I checked under the hood and it sounded as if the vacuum pump was running continuous. I shut the truck off and started it again, the pump was running and the check engine light did not go out.
I have been using my 4x4 alot lately as we just got 20" of snow. I did not need to use it this morning. I don't use the autolock feature because the one hub will not turn to auto, it always locked.
I will have to look into this further after work and take it to the parts store to find out why the light is on.
After about 30 seconds of switching to 4x4 the vent will default to defrost, which I have read is a vacuum leak. I figured the leak was in the hubs or one of the lines to the hubs.
The check engine light has never come on before when using 4x4 and the pump has never run like this. I guess its possible the two issues are not related.
Well I was able to pull the code tonight and there is a problem with the #5 glow plug. I will have to do a search on here and find out where it's located and how to get access to it. Am I able to test it to find out if it's bad or are they cheap enough that replacing it is the better option?
