Went out to move the truck today, and it was pretty warm so i didnt have it plugged in. Turned the key to on, and the WTS light came on, and it seemed to stay on for a long time. Was making me kind of nervous. Usually it just stays on as long as the chime does. Had to be a good 15 maybe 20 seconds. It does that every now and then. Any other time i would say it would be about 10 seconds at best. I checked all the glow plugs a while back using the test light method, and they all passed. Dont know what to make of it.
Another thing, even after the extra long gp time it still seemed to start hard. Just cranked and cranked and cranked with no fireage. Stopped for a minute. Glowed the plugs again and cranked her over and we had fireage right away. I know that sounds like classic air intrusion, but when i checked the fuel filter a while back after sitting overnight it was full to the very top. Could this be caused by a weak fuel pump?
John, based on your other threads,i would guess its your poor cables.
my GP cycles where messed up before i changed my cables, even tho the ground tested fine.once i replace my chassis and block grounds and positive cables everything was right on the money.
like Daves states in the sticky thread, the new style system is very particular when it comes to resistance.
Watch your ampmeter or volt guage instead of the wait to start light, and crank it as soon as the needle jumps back to normal. The lights have a nasty habit of going off early or late. Since you had to hit them again I'l bet the light stayed on for a while after the plugs went off and they cool down pretty quick.

It didnt start clicking until the light went out. I try to keep an eye on the gauge, because usally it doesnt come up for a second or two after the light goes out.
yeah the wts light goes out a couple seconds before because the average person does not start it immediately so it gives them a second or two of glow after so they can put their hand on a key and turn it, man that takes me a couple seconds for sure! hahaha. Wait my WTS light doesnt work! hahaha.
wow bro, with 300K it could definietly be the problem, dont quote me but i wouldnt second guess it. I just replaced injectors with only 70K on them and it changed the whole truck. The IP is most definitely next. I wonder if i could swap two old IP's for a new one as cores? haha
oh yea im sure a new IP, injectors, and fuel pump would make quite a difference, but i dont even got enough cash to put fuel in the ole girl right now. But i figured id ask on here for future reference.
well i cleaned the battery cable grounds up real nice today. Didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference as far as starting goes. I DID have fireage on the first revolution though, which is new. Seems like its only firing on a couple cylinders at first, and then the others join in.
