Help! I need the replace the flywheel on my '71 302. I found a flywheel in good shape today, but I can't tell what it fits. The Ford part number is C80E-6380B.
Can anyone tell me what flywheel this is, and what size clutch it takes? Thanks loads!
I don't have my books with me, but C8 means 1968. What's wrong with the flywheel you have? You can have it resurfaced, and put new teeth(ring gear) on the flywheel.
Bad crack, can't be resurfaced. Yes, I have determined that it's from a '68 Fairlane/Torino, but I can't determine which engine or clutch size. The number again is C80E-6380B...any ideas?
Well...heh, heh...I live in the mountains alone, and the truck is presently my only vehicle. I haven't dissassembled it yet so I can't compair (need it to get around). The idea was to find another flywheel and have it surfaced, so I could do the whole job in one weekend without having to run to the machine shop or anywhere else.
The price of the one I mentioned is so cheap ($15-already machined) that I thought I'd just grab it and be ready to go. But if it won't fit what's the point?
So can any of you parts number guru's figure out what engine a C8OE-6380B flywheel comes from? Thanks!
It's cast right on the flywheel (the whole number) on the engine side across from the balance bulge (which appears to be a 28 ounce bulge. Clutch bolt hole across to bolt hole appears right at 11" so I guess it's for a 10" clutch. Mystery flywheel! Might be for a marine application?
There may be some confusion here as I started this post stating that the original flywheel was cracked. That was actually in a truck out in a nearby field I was hoping to use as a donor, for the upcoming clutch job. That one was cracked bad and it's now gone.
It's true that I live alone in a rural area, so I wanted the mystery flywheel ready before I started the job (chattering clutch-standard replacement). But if it's a 10" flywheel I will probably drop the idea.
In fact, I've never had my truck's clutch apart (a '73 F-100 with a '71 302) but all the listings I've seen are for an 11" clutch (both years) so I'm guessing that's what I have. The bell housing and tranny are original '73 parts for this truck. Since the above mystery flywheel does appear to be for a 10" clutch, I probably will drop the idea. But is there any way to tell the clutch size before teardown? Thanks, Polkat
