My last motor wouldnt ever put out any heat, but here in Florida it doesnt get very cold so I didnt worry about. It never overheated so I figured it was fine. I did pull the tstat when the motor died but I have yet to test it tos see if that was the problem.
Theirs some guys on here that take the fans off for the winter. Ive been meanin to do it, but it hasnt been as cold as i thought and a lack of funds keeps me from drivin the ole rig as much as Id like to.
You need to flush out your heater core more than likely, it should put out heat even if the motor is only 100 degrees. I don't know anybody that removes their fan for the winter, David 85 did run his for a while to test the mileage. If you have a mechanical guage install a mexican thermastat and see if it warms up. Is your fan clutch locked up and how far at a time are you driving it.
A few years ago a friend of mine was up north and the temps got way below 0, when he got back to town he had his matress tied to the grill on his kw. I about rolled on the ground and still give him a hard time about it.
im talking 130 deg. in the summer even when its 95 deg. out side on the factory guage it barely registers. im in southern california and the coldest monrnings ive had were maybe 25 deg. but its 75 within a couple of hours. and the truck still never gets in the normal range. im pretty sure i installed a motorcraft t stat
