two different trannys available/seat differences?
Hi everyone, I have two questions...I have a 2001 XLT with the 5.4 liter engine. I recently heard that there were two different trannys available in Expeditions. Is this true? And if so, what are the differences between the two and how do I know which one I have?
My second question has to do with the seats. I have a cloth interior and I really want to have leather. Has anyone done this? I have seen leather kits available for earlier models but haven't yet found an 01 kit. It looks to me like the only difference is that my 2001 has the larger console so the front bucket seats have no armrests. Is it the same seat as in the earlier models just without armrests or did they actually start using a different seat?

There are definitely two different transmissions. I know because I was recently browsing through my factory CD manual and saw both in a table of contents. I don’t exactly know what the differences are, but would presume that one is for the 5.4L and the other for the 4.6L. I’ll try to do a little more sleuthing tonight or maybe someone else will know specifically.
I’m not sure about the seat covers fitting your model, but I did ask a local upholstery guy how much he’d charge to do two front and the middle seat…~$700 in top quality leather.

As suspected, the trannys are as follows:
5.4L===4R100---Big and boxy
4.6L===4R70W---Looks More like a "typical" transmission
On vehicle certification label
U- Code is a 4.6L Tranny
E- Code is a 5.4L Tranny
