I was wondering what the numbers on the front of my block mean. I have a 74 f100 4x4 and about an inch below the heads on the right side there is a set of numbers. the numbers look like 88 with 352 below it. I am wondering if any one can decifer these for me. I am trying to figure out what motor I got.
For the most part FE block casting numbers are meaningless.
As for the numbers you posted, the "352" (which appears on every single FE block from 1958 to 1971/72) and mold ID "88" (meaningless)
After 72 blocks began being casted at MCC (Michigan Casting Center) had a reverse "105" where you now see the "352". Once production in 74 was totally shifted from DIF (Dearborn Iron Foundry) ALL FE blocks carried the reverse 105.
If the engine is original, as stated you will have a 360.
Thanks, I am going to be pulling the truck apart here in a while and I will try to find the casting numbers on the side of the block. I think that that will help some more.
