IDI Timeing

What is the proper way to time an IDI? I did a search and couldn't find the procedure. What i did was removed the oil fill loosened the 3 8MM 8 point bolts loosened the 3 nuts on the pump and turned the pump counter-clockwise. and tightened everything back up. when i fired her back up with the advance on she had the "Powerstroke rattle" when i turned off the advance still had a little rattle but not a lot. first did i go too far and 2 how long should the advance be on before it goes off .

maybe somebody could create a Tech Guide for some of the IDI specific maintenance and procedures.

The rattle should basically go away however most of these motors have a little rattle.
It seems like the 7.3s are quieter, and I belive this is because of the upgraded rockers.

The cold advance should turn off when the motor reaches app. 112 degrees. I think that number is right.

Due to and electrical fire under the advance is wired to a switch in the cab. not ideal but it works. i need to install a mech temp sensor to know what the real temps are.
