How to avoid or perform this cleaning?

This is the only repair order I can't find. Can you tell by the appearance of the drain pipe?

I hear you can tell by the appearance. I had pics of them, but I can't find them at the moment.
Hopefully a tech will jump in and answer that one for both of us!!

the new one looks like this |U|
the old one looks like -\U/-
basicly the old style has short tabs were it hooks on to the pedistel
the new style only has a U shaped retainer with tabs.
if you post a picture of the pipe were it meets the pedistel I can tell you wich one it is.

Great news for me. I just replaced the up-dated one that was in there(dealer must have replaced it at 99,000 mile svc) with the old style I just bought at the dealer. If I didn't have bad luck--I'd have no luck at all.
