It is rusty on the shaft and not on the body. I remmember I had these door handles plated 35 years ago, not realizing that they were stainless, as this is a Canadian truck it must have had the stainless handles. I have some others around but can't find them as yet. Wonder if I can strip the plating some how.

Why strip it? If they look good, leave them.

There is some marks typical of older chrome but they do seem to be buffing out and look OK, probably the best thing to do,

Thanks

My 52 Mercury M-1 pickup is quite decidedly Canadian, and it is the one that has the plated potmetal handles.

How did you end up with a Canadian truck, did it come from the west. I know a guy in Saskatoon who has a couple hundred truck on his farm and have asked him to look for a couple good stainless door handles.

The truck was purchased new in British Columbia, and sometime in the late 50's immigrated (legally) just over the border into Washington state, where it lived out it's life in the little town of Oroville, until this past fall when I bought it from the original owners Grandson.

If your friend in Saskatoon has a Mercury tailgate he'd be willing to part with, let me know. ;-)

Interesting, I spent a couple of days around Metaline, Wa. at the hydro station back in December and it looked like there were some older vehicles around. I will check with Saskatoon to see what he has, I was there a month ago and got 2 nice doors for my 52 but wasn't looking for tailgates.
