I would suggest going to a reputable muffler shop and letting them build what you need. I took mine in and we had to actually build a collector off my headers and make some nifty bends around my fuel tanks and then use a trick Flowmaster before exiting where I wanted. The guy even asked about the spare tire and if I was going to mount a hitch so he could work around those. He built a beautiful system welding everything together. It's solid, thick and has a lifetime warranty. The only problem was that the bends were not mandrel bent. It's hard to buy that stuff off the rack. By the way, I highly recommend the Flowmasters. They sound great. But, you might want to take a look at Edelbrock's mufflers also. Edelbrock has a lifetime warranty.

Hope that helps,

Steve

You could do what I did and run straights. yours doesn't a cat though, so you should run flowmasters, otherwise you probably wouldn't have enough back pressure.

Go to a good exhaust shop and have them bend the pipes to fit your vehice. While you are at it you could put headers on and make a big difference in sound and power. As for the Flowmasters I dont think you should go with them. I would go with short glasspacks. They sound good, they are cheap, and they last a long time. The Flowmaster is prettymuch a glorified strait pipe that costs 60-70 dollars a piece. Go with Thrush or Blue Knight packs and you'll have a great setup. I have 18" Thrush packs on my pickup and they have a deep tone and they rumble big time. Hope this helps.

Brian, if you put your truck near a truck with the same engine and flomasters, you could hear why we'd pay the difference. There is quality in that awesome sound.

You may like the sound and more power to you but the flowmasters just dont hold up on gravel roads that I travel on all the time. Rocks get punched throght them and they you have to go get new ones while if I run glasspacks they are very durable and last a lot longer. I have heard flowmaster and they do sound good but I cant see paying so much for them.

I would have to disagree on the durabliity of the Flowmaster muffler. Although I have not installed them yet, the set I purchased is the heaviest muffler I ever picked up. I would guess that the shell is at least made out of 16 guage. If a rock kicked up from a tire can penetrate this, than that same rock would easily penetrate the fender or floorboard. Maybe they beefed them up them since you purchased your set. The ones I got are part #42452 which are 2 1/4 in and out. I can't wait to try them out.

I just had a new exhaust system put on my 79 F-150. I went with a local shop for the bending and used aluminized pipe w/crossover all 2 1/2".Have Headman coated fender headers. Used Supertrappe mufflers-2 1/2" w/4" discs. These disks can be added or removed really easlily and do make quite a difference in sound and powerband-less disks, more bottom end, more disks, more top end. Have had Trappes on the bike for years, their stainless steel and have replaceable packing. They are a little expensive up front, but, I do expect them to outlast the truck. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with!! Chuck

what motor? if its mostly stock you might consider a single 3 in flowmaster. its cheaper and you still keep your low end but have a great deep sound...

If you are putting rock's kicked up by your tire's threw flowmasters you might want to keep an eye on your gas tank as well
