timing question

so im looking into getting a 79 f150 the guy told me the timing needs to be adjusted....the truck is inspected and plan on driving the truck home...with the timing not being adjusted will the truck be ok to drive?

It depends how far the timing is off. If it's too far advanced, it will run hot, ping, and start hard. If it's too far retarded (delayed), it will sputter and backfire. If it's too far off either way, it won't start. If it's a few degrees off either way, it'll be okay to drive home. No one on this forum will be able to answer this for you because no one here knows how far off the timing on this guy's truck is. The only way to find that out is to check it out with a timing light. If he could tell you how many degrees off his timing is, then chances are he would have just timed it himself. Chances are the truck isn't running right and the guy doesn't know what to do.
