Havent had time under the right circumstances or had someone to start the truck while I listen, so figured I would see if any of yall had experienced this.
When the truck has been sitting all night and cold, when I first start it, it fires and idles for about 3-5 seconds then I hear a squeel or squeek noise that lasts about 1.5-2 seconds. Its not the belt, its a very different noise, Im almost wondering if its the vanes in the turbo sweeping? I cleaned the turbo when I did EGR delete less then 10K miles ago, but I havent been driving my truck much latley either.
Just thought I would ask before I messed with it as I dont know when I will be able to get someone in the cold morning to start the truck while I listen, wife leaves for work before I do.
I hear the same exact noise. It almost sound like air excaping from a balloon when you stretch the rubber at the balloon inlet. Before I change my oil cooler, I thought maybe it was the system pressurizing or something. Now that the oil cooler is replaced and it still does it, I am just curious. I am having some rough cold start issued this week also. I plan to post a sound clip of the squeel and the rough start this weekend.
Im convinced it is the vanes in the turbo moving, but being that the truck is under warranty I didnt dig into it. Its at the dealer now for cold start problem and latest flash, I told my buddy to check that out while it was there.
Let me know what you find out. What is your cold start issue? I have been having issues getting the truck running after it sits all night. THe engine will crank, fire then immediately die. After about 8 or so times of this happening it will finally fire and run. It seems like it is starving for fuel. I am wondering if the FICM is on the way out? I want to post a sound clip of all of it and get the opinion of the others on the forum.
Same symptoms Ford replaced FICM and did reflash. starts great now all weather.
Unfortunately, I am not under warranty becasue my truck is an 04. I have thought of testing the FICM and reflowing the solder as many on this forum have suggested.

My cold start symptoms: I dont drive my truck everyday, so it sits for 3-4 days at a time, when I start it, it smokes terribly, misses badly and knocks like crazy! The truck stays running, but its a good 3-5 minutes before it will settle down and smooth out.
