HI, i have a 74 boat and it has a ford V8 Engine,
and i was wondering wich engine it shuld be, it look about the same size of my Bronco 302 BUT it have bigger spark's, and the spark wires are also different, exept that every thig else looks about the same, well the carb is a littlediferent....any suggestions?
It's a good bet that you have a Ford Marine 302. The block would be the same but the upper would be a lot different because of the cooling system. A boat dealer would be able to help.
The reason the plugs are bigger and the wires are different is mostly because the ignition system is the points type which FORD was getting away from in the same year, but electronic components will match from any 302.You may even have a 351W Marine engine as well,so a cast # check will solve that delima. Also be aware that some boat engines, especially if it was a pure inboard design like a ski boat, were an opposite rotation design, meaning the harmonic balancer rotated CCW when viewed from the front.Tread carefully on this one,You may end up with more reverse gears than you can handle.
