Turbo question

Coming home tonight I gave it a little bit of throttle and got off of it right away and heard the turbo barking a little bit like it was releasing the presure. I was able to duplicate this. It would bark 3-4 time and sound like a whoomp whoomp sound. Is this normal?

Yup....turbo fart. No wastegate on the 6.0 VGT so the excess boost comes back through the intake.

It is more easily heard on engines with an aftermarket intake. If it becomes excessive, it can be indicative of sticking vanes on the turbo.

Thanks guys. Could a dirty egr valve cause this also. I have yet to pull it and clean it. Truck has 78000 miles on it now. I plan on doing it some time this weekend when I change my fuel filters out.

Got the fuel filters replaced today and I also cleaned the egr valve. It wasnt too bad. I was suprised since this is its first cleaning with 78000 on it. I seem to have a little bit better power now. It ran a little rough until it warmed up and then smoothed out. I did notice I was still getting a turbo fart from time to time but not bad. I have only ever noticed it one time when I was hauling a heavy load. Maybe I just never paid attention since the radio is always cranking. By the way the egr cleaning was a piece of cake. I accidently drop one of the screws and had to use a magnet to fish it out. No biggie. Hardest thing was figuring out how to turn it to get some rope down the bolt holes.
