Attn: King Ranch Owners, Question?

I'm considering ordering a F350 king ranch and I love the leather seats. However, I use my truck for duck hunting in the fall and I'm trying to understand if there are resonable preventitive measures for avoiding scuffs and water stains.

Do any of you use seat covers to minimize the mud and water impact on KR leather during hunting season? Are there loose fitting waterproof covers that might be quick and easy to take on and off? I'm not worried about appearance for temporary protection.

Thanks for any advice/experience you may share.
Kurt

Nope, the leather looks better with a few scuffs. For water stains, I wipe it down with a WET rag, let it dry and treat it with neets foot oil.

I know what you're saying - those KR seats sure are nice looking when new but I think you'll find that they look a little better with some aging. A few scratches here a few stains there, Just wait until you start driving, your steering wheel leather will darken real quick like.
From the factory, with the hide they used I can see old scar tissue the animal had from what seems to be from a barbed wire fence.
You really will want that warm patina look anyway. It'll come with time.

I don't have a KR, but it seems to me the KR seats wear the scratches and dings like a badge of honor. Unlike the regular leather seats that just look shabby with the same wear and tear.

We bought a KR a few months ago, and I gotta say I don't mind a few scuffs. I know what you're saying though, the extreme might just be to much.

water stains

I guess I'm more concerned about water staining the leather than scuffs and scratches. It's not like I plan to stow wet gear on the leather, but getting some water on the leather surfaces while driving from time to time will be unavoidable. Has that proven to be a problem?? or does the Chaparral leather clean and dry up nicely?

I am 25 months into my second F-350 KR. It will surprise you how durable the leather is regarding stains and wear. I have cleaned mine once or twice and it always looks great. My bet the leather is good quality and not stretched too thin or cut too fine. I was shopping for some leather furniture and a furniture store makes you shudder with what they do to the leather furniture. YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR KR features.

you should always protect your leather before putting it in service and then maintain it.

riding saddles get wet all the time, I wouldn't sweat it.

Leather...

The key is conditioning & protecting your KR leather. I treat my seats every 30 days and I always get compliments...truck stays clean.

I would put SOMETHING over the seats to keep the water out...cover, camo tarp, something!

IMHO, the KR is a show truck, not really made for "working or abuse."

Talking seats

The answer to your question is a cover.
There is a company that produces wet suit like seat
covers for Jeeps and trucks and such.
Cant remember the name, but if you do some searching,
you will find it.
Not cheap, but will last a long time.
Just remember to take off whatever you buy once in
a while and condition the leather and let it breath.
Dont leave the covers on permanently.

Kurt,

It kind of defeats one of the main reasons of having a fancy King Ranch if you're going to hide the seats. I think the seats are one of the options included in a KR that makes it a KR.

You might be better off with a Lariat or XLT if you're worried about the odd scratch or stain on the seats.

If you have your sights set on a King Ranch I say just pickup some cheap full coverage seat covers and put them on when hunting and take them off when you get home.
I bet a large sturdy blanket would work to.

Don't put seat covers on if you have side airbags built into seat. Guess I haven't paid attention to whether or not it was in the pillar or seat itself or both?

LOL.
True, forgot about those darn things.
Anything will work.

These covers look good, work good and last forever.
And as I said earlier, take 'em off when not needed.

I agree to a point. And I would not spend the coin for Wet Okole on a KR. But having said that, I would put some kind of cover on my rear seat. My Labrador rides there, and dog claws will really tear up leather. It would end up looking like suede leather. Duluth Trading sells a dog cover, more like a blanket really, but it hangs from the seat rests and covers the seat and seat back. Easy to take it out and clean it, much easier than actual seat covers. It also helps keep him from sliding around and getting hurt.
