When I worked on my 250 gasser, I used POR15. That's better applied on top of rust though. It's what I'm planning on using on my 350 too. It seems to work pretty well.
That's where I live (unfortunately). I got it at Auto Body Supplies And Paint. They have a couple stores around. My buddies uncle actually owns the place. They might actually have a store out towards you, i'll have to go check. You should be able to get the POR online too, I think you can order it online.
You get it in pint, quart or gallon cans. I brushed it on, but you can spray it on too. I think it needs to get thinned to spray. Where abouts in Wilimantic did you live? It's kinda funny because I did a job out in Dartmouth a couple winters ago.
can't go wrong with Por 15 or Rust Bullit. Used the por on my old 79 250 when I restored it and used the Rust Bullit on my 96 350. Both can be sprayed you can get a thinner from either company to allow it to be sprayed.
