Interior questions.

I have an 86 I also have an 88 lariot with immacculate interior.

I know I can swap the door panels,as I have experimented with them.
My question is can I swap the the complete dash assembley. and if anybody has done it is there any tricks to make it smoother.

Have you done one. What all has to be fabbed. They are both diesel so it wouldn't be too bad to swap the whole wireing harness.

Be easier to swap the cab and front clip complete.

What's wrong with the 1986 interior dash? If it just needs a dash pad, and some bezels I'd go that route.

Then you could use the 88 headliner, side panels, door panels, carpet, seat etc, with little difficulty. Fabricating the seat belts may or may not be hard to do.

Nothing wrong with the 86 interior I would just like the 88 dash and door panels.
I have pretty new paint on the 86, and like the body style better.
I won't be changing the seat I have caption chairs in there instead of the bench and it is all the same color on both of them.

I recently swapped dashes, but the new dash was from an 82.It wasn't hard at all.One thing i'd be worried about it is whether the screws and bolts would line up,especially at the front of the cab by the bottom of the windshield.Best of luck with it.

i spent weeks trying to get an 80-86 style dash to work in a later style cab and finally gave up. my welding skills have since improved and i've got mig access, but it'd still be a major undertaking. the support brackets don't line up, the pedal assemblies don't interchange the same (mine didn't at least), and the steering column is different. if you decide to go that route, take lots of pictures, it'll help you remember how to put stuff back together. i'd vote for going with the new door panels, headliner, sunvisors, carpet, etc, and stick with the old dash. i know duplicolor makes a paint just for auto plastics. its detailed pretty good in extreme makeover: ems cab edition. i'd say just repaint the dash after you swap the rest of the stuff and save the headache.
