Important upgrades done to my Excursion

I just got done getting a few upgrades done, some are much needed for safety and some are needed for me personally..

We added the pioneer 8000BT for bluetooth operation, great for drving and talking so you dont have to hold a phone...It also has HD radio and here local there is a TON of HD stations and they sound awesome!! It also has USB for Ipod and other things that we use....We also added the steering wheel controll as it has a volume up and down in the rear of the remote for easy use while driving...

Stereo-$260 on Amazon
HD-$94 on Amazon
Steering wheel remote-$26 on Amazon

Next we added the rear camera which is a must for these vehicles as you can see right up to your bumper and even back up to tow something without getting out..We used the pioneer camaera with infared and a cheap over the mirror unit for view..

Then we added the Blinder m25 updateable laser jammer,I have this on my other vehicle and let me tell you,you will jam EVERYTIME,with a flick of a switch they can be used as parking sensors...They are legal here but not in many other states...We also added the solo escort radar detector....Next is a 12 inch custom sub-box that mounts in the spare tire spot that allows you to keep the factory look and even the factory tiree cover, just dont get a flat!

Radio and steering wheel controll

Bluetooth speaker

mirror/monitor-7 inch screen

pioneer camera

Laser jammer, with switch for parking sensor

Jammers mounted safely

I have not had the sub box installed yet, there is a local stereo place that has built me some nice custom boxes, show quality stuff, for me in the past and he showed me what it is,its a custom made box in the shape of the spare tire with a rectangular port coming out of the rear bottom of it,you can sport your factory spare tire cover...

The stereo unit tells you the date and time and also tells you the name of the song and who the singer is(scrolls along the bottom) you can set the display how you want also..only when useing the HD add on unit($94 more dollars on Amazon) does it show the band and song, the stereo is HD ready but you have to buy a HD add on unit but there is no subscription cost or monthly fee...

These are easy upgrades that the wife will agree is a safe thing to ad and worth every penny for the added safety...Jammer=front & rear parking sensor.....rear back up camera covers all blind spots on the side and even if a child is laying under your bumper....The stereo is worth it just for the bluetooth, but you can now play recorded songs and ipod and the steering wheel mount is also a safety feature..

Thanks,I wasnt sure if I needed the set of 4 as I had the rear camera for the sensor part of it and I do slow down when hit with laser...Its nice to have all 4 up front for added security..

I have the escort shifter Zr4 on my work van as a jammer and it works perfect too,but came with a rear mounted license plate jammer and it works in conjunction with my Awesome Escort 9500ix that has GPS to lock all false alerts, which is the best thing ever in radar detection,imo...

In my work van I also run the Pioneer avic z3 for the nav and back up monitor, but I cant afford another $1800 for a head unit so I settled with this one which is fine...

I ordered the 5 channel Alpine and told the wife we could run stock speakers with hi frequency as long as we have a sub,but im not thinking they will hold too long amped up...Kappas are top quality,Ill settle for reference when they blow...

I don't see any pictures! I'd like to see where your $200 pioneer backup camera is mounted and how you see it via over the rear-view screen method. I'd like to add one to my 250.

Just curious, why didn't you get a head unit that has a screen, either single or double DIN?

I posted the pictures, its right by the upper brake light, here is a link to my photobucket
Excursion pictures by tommynos - Photobucket

Well the reasons for not doing a touch screen is I had this mirror unit on my wifes Durango we traded for the X,the rearview is where your used to looking and you can actually still see out of it also as a real mirror and its bigger than most touch screens..

I also wasnt able to find a touch screen in the price range I was looking to spend that had built in bluetooth...I mean we have had DVD in all my other vehicles including my work van and I dont use it ever...Navigation I only use in my work van when looking for jobs and I thought if I buy another Nav it will be a portable one as I have like 6 vehicles...

Same with my sirius satelite that im hooked up for free ,I have the pod in each vehicle so I can move it around...So pretty much we really didnt need the Nav,DVD,or camera part of it so we went with this unit..

Im posting detailed pics useing the work van as the wife is out in the X..

As you can see the paper with rocks located under the hitch bumper area(would never see without this camera) Then as you can see in the other picture you can easily see it in the Pioneer unit display, this makes it way easy loading a trailer!

Here is my work van with the laser jammer mounted on the front..

Then here is the paper and rocks

Then here is the pioneer camera picking it up onto the pioneer head unit

here is the rear camera(the small thing)and then the rear laser jammer from Escort

Yes be sure to know the state laws that you pass through also.....in many states its illegal just to possess the jammers let alone use them...I know here radar detectors alone are a sure way to get a ticket.....I know for a fact that if one is seen while on a stop for speeding, you wont get a break......even if its not in use.

photobuck is blocked at work, didn't know that until this thread but it makes a lot of sense now :|

Excursion backup camera is an excellent install (saw it from my iPhone). Would be a bit hard to steal that one. Having trouble justifying the added expense for a premium backup camera, is it worth the money or is a ~$50 unit just as acceptable given the usage amount.

Like that rear-view mirror, who makes it? Can you use the camera while driving? I'm more drawn to the Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD as it can show the backup camera and I can leave my rear view alone and not add a small backup camera monitor. Would also let me add an overhead monitor in the back to show movies for the kids.

I had bought that mirror camera on Ebay with a license plate mounted camera,my friend had the pioneer with night vision and we compared the supposed night vision with pioneers and it was hands down better and the picture is nice in person...I only use those style now,but im not sure if there is something comparable for cheaper....

Yes you can view the road while driving,it has 2 inputs, you can also set one input for DVD if you wanted..Once your used to the camera up top it does become easier than looking down..I leave mine on while driving as it cover ALL blind spots...

Someone stop me,I cant stop doing upgrades

I added a train horn and mounted it where I saw it mounted on soo many others on the forum, drivers side beside the frame...Sounds awesome and this is going to come in pretty handy here in Florida..

I also added the slim HID hi/low kit 10,000,man what a difference!!

I found the post on how to fix the overhead display, did what it said and wala,Working for the first time ever(for me)....

Currently im not too happy with the HD radio and wouldnt suggest it to anyone,I mean the stations display the band and all but the stations seem even weaker and it jumps from HD to analog and that really sounds bad..It works great on certain locked in stations but the others drive me nutts...Going toi install the pod for my sirius unit and stick with that or MP3 or the I-pod...

And here is the exhaust upgrade...Removed the cats, added a silincer then a stainless straight threw bullit muffler a 4 instainless tip and replaced the rear tailpipe with 4 inch to make it look sorta like a turbo diesel from behind..By the way those tail lights are removed from the truck, they came with it and it looked riced to me so I traded a guy in the parking lot of autozone..
