I'm looking at a 66 that's been converted to 4x4 by putting a 66 F100 body on a 76 F250 frame. It's a solid truck with good drive train and a solid cab but doors and fenders have some dents so I'm thinking I'd replace them and possibly add side chrome. The body is a Custom Cab. It still has the Ford 100 chrome badge with the Twin I Beam logo inside from the 2x for the conversion. What should I look for in a 66 4x4 F250 logo? I've seen some with Ford 250 across the top but not sure what the inner logo should read. The ones I see say Camper Special but I don't think that was offered on a 66 F250 4x4. What else was there in the inner area. I'd like to make is as correct looking as an original 66 F250 4x4 would be.
That's correct. Just the number 250 on the plastic inserts for 1966 F250 4x4. So, it would be like the #5 shown on the LMC web page referenced.
The 1966 F100 4x4 used the "FOUR WHEEL DRIVE" inserts, but not the F250 4x4.
All 1966 F250 4x4 trucks would have the tall cab step inside of the doors and used the older style cab mounts.
Also, all 1966 F250 4x4 trucks would have come equipped with the large radius opening fenders. If you are going to replace them and want it to appear more like an original 1966 F250 4x4 then you will want the large radius opening fenders.
They would also have come with the older style bed in the case of a Styleside. What some refer to as a "wrong bed". Since they used the older style bed they did not utilize the Body Moulding pieces, as well as the 1966 F350. The other 1966 trucks, including the 1966 F100 4x4, got the new design bed in the case of a Styleside and could come with the Body Mouldings.
The stone guard area immediately behind the front bumper is also different with a vertical guard painted body color instead of a horizontal guard typically painted in Argent (Silver).
The steering is the older Gemmer style box with the solid column that runs straight into the gearbox and the 18" 4-spoke steering wheel, white in the case of a Custom Cab or black if a Standard Cab.
What is the asking price for such a conversion, if you don't mind me asking?
Here's one of mine so you can see what the front fenders and bed look like, as well as the name plate on the side of the fender, which is original and has not completely faded out.
TA455HO, would you have any photos of the floor with the step compared to a 2x cab floor? I think this truck is using a 2x F100 cab and was wondering if the original 4x4 cabs sat any higher then this one would? Are there any big differences in the frames from a 75 F250 to a 66 F250? It's a long bed with the style side. Were those earlier beds the same length? 8' I assume?
That looks very similar to what I'd like to wind up with. It's the same color combo but with a newer style side bed. I really like the wide fenders as well. I bet they are hard to find though.
