Q's about Power Steering Pumps

I've done some searching, but haven't found an answer. Are the P.S pumps different between 4x4's and 2 wheelers?? I pulled a pump off a 78 F-250 with a 460 and I need to know if they are the same.(they look the same) Pulley diameter is different between the two. My pulley is a little smaller than the one I got off the 460 truck. My truck has a 400. Do you think I'd be OK running the 460 PS pump with the bigger pulley?? Should I get the pulleys swapped?? TIA

I don't think there is s difference between the pumps themselves. I would change the pulleys. I went through a heck of a time last summer with 460 pulleys. If you have a matching set, keep them together.

The smaller pulley will just make the pump spin faster and produce more output. I suspect that is why the 4x4 was smaller, more mass to turn.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks guys. I was leaning towards a pulley swap, I just needed more info.
