ignition advance
I had to disect my distributor for repairs. The advance had rusted and was froze. I tried to keep track of everything but missed one. When reassembling the advance assy. it could be put in two different ways, turned 180 deg. There are openings on the plate the advance weights swing into. One opening is marked 13, the other 18. 18 is bigger and would allow for more advance (more movement). Any one know which way it should go. Engine is in a "79" E150 351W. The manual I have doesn't give the spec what full advance should be, if I knew that I could tell with a light if I'm there or not.

I have been there! The info is in a good manual like Motor's. You might try your public library. Many libraries have the Mitchell series and maybe some other stuff. Supply houses like Summit have "timing tape" that you can put on the harmonic balancer for 360 degrees of markings. So make sure that the markings are accurately placed, The dampers have been known to slip when they get old and oil soaked. I all else fails, check with the Ford garage and ask if you can look at one of their old manuals. They are very detailed.
