I have a guy with a 90 fox body mustang 302 near me... He has his factory shorty headers sitting around and was wondering if those would fit on a 351w in my F-250???
I can't say for sure that they would fit,I can't see why they wouldn't considering they are bassically the same size as a manifold, the passenger side one might be tight due to the angle of the dump.
unless one of your manifolds is cracked and your looking at installing these as a cheap replacement I wouldn't bother with them.they are small and wouldn't offer much improvment for the pita they would be to install.
well IF i could afford a pair of long tubes I would do that... unfortunatly that isn't in the budget for the build unless I find a good set of used. The guy only wants $20 for them and I thought they would be a improvement over the stock manifolds (which are fine btw) The engine is out for rebuild so they wouldn't be hard to put on... wouldn't even consider doing it if the engine was still in the truck!
They will bolt to the engine but not the Y pipe.. dumps are located differently, they don't have the EGR fitting, and are really no better than the stock 5.8 manifolds.
Give them a try , let us know if they fit ok , we get this question often , they will bolt to the heads just fine , i don't know about the clearence , and i don't think they will hook up to your exhaust with out modifacation ...Lew
A little modification i don't really mind... I have been eager to try my christmas present since late december: Hobart Mig!~ (my family and my fiance's family had to go in on it together...) Any how if I had the $$$ I would probably go with something like the link below...
Are the stock Y-pipes restrictive at all? My exhaust from cat back is rotted out so I have some exhaust work to do anyway...
Man I wish these truck headers came in long tube! Definatly find the $$$ for long tubes at that price!
Pacesetter make longtubes for these trucks that fit very well apparently and have the EGR attachment, and yes the stock y-pipe and cat are a cork, at the bends the pipe is crimped down to under 2" in diameter and the stock cats are very restrictive. If you got the welder have a go at building your own system, it will take some time to put everything together but it's worth it.
P.S. The Flowtechs fit the motor well but hang too low and make attaching the rest of the exhaust a pain.
definatly good to know! I think I can trust myself to build from a set of long tubes back but I don't know if I can do the headers myself... Plus I don't know how I would do it without a tubing bender... unless you guys know how to do exhaust without a bender...? I was wanting to go headers to 3in collector, then a none restrictive muffler, and then either do dual or single out from the muffler...
No.. you don't want to build headers from scratch.. it requires a jig and some pretty good welding skills. Everything behind them is easier to do, buy some mendrel bent J bends and cut out the sections necessary to make your bends and weld those together one piece at a time building it up from the headers out.
ok that sounds good... i think i am going to get those "J" bends in 3in and see what I can do! Oh as long as you are looking at this Conanski the shop just called and wanted to know if I want to go with flat or dish pistons...? Any thoughts? I didn't think it would matter to the computer if I up my compression like 0.5 pts to I think 8.7:1 getting the flat pistions... what do you think?
Thanks for all your help you have no idea how valuable it is to have knowledgable guys on hand that know their S***!!!!
Use 2.5" mendrel tubing, there isn't a lot of room to work on the drivers side especially and 3" is overkill. See my post in your other thread about the pistons.
